GPSA News:

GPSA Professional Travel and Registration Grants:

The Graduate School and the GPSA make funds available for graduate student travel grants, which are intended to help students in their research and scholarly activities, and to present papers at significant meetings. Keep in mind these grants are used to defray transportation costs, and do not include lodging and/or food.

Summer 2008

Grant Period: June 1 to September 30, 2008

Deadline: Friday April 18, 2008, by 5 p.m.

Notification letters sent out: May 30, 2008

Professional Development Grant Awards

Congratulations! The MBA Society Club at WSU Vancouver will coordinate the Resume Building and Interviewing Workshop, which was awarded $3,000 for Fall 2008. This professional development activity will provide graduate students with resume writing and interviewing skills.

All graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals for Spring 2009. The deadline is 5:00 p.m., October 1, 2008.

GAs to Receive Salary Increase

According to President Floyd’s Perspectives column, WSU plans to supplement the 2 percent pay increase provided by the state to administrative professionals, faculty and graduate students with an additional 2 percent, effective Sept. 1. This assures that WSU retains the best personnel and continues to offer competitive assistantship packages.

Churchill College, Fitzwilliam College, New Hall and Trinity Hall Joint Application Scheme for Junior Research Fellowships

University of Cambridge, November 19, 2008. The four colleges offer 12 fellowships with varying stipends, open to graduates who have recently completed or will complete their doctorate.

American Association of University Women (AAUW)

Deadline November 15, 2008. Dissertation Fellowships are available to women who will complete their dissertation writing between April 1, 2009, and June 30, 2009. This scholarship is open to applicants in all fields of study, except engineering. Scholars engaged in researching gender issues are encouraged to apply.

Graduate Student Spotlight

Xyanthe Neider

Doctoral student in the College of Education, Xyanthe Neider, received the 2008 Critical Issues in Curriculum and Cultural Studies Graduate Student Award from the American Education Research Association (AERA) in NYC on March 24. This award goes to a graduate student who best demonstrates a consistent and promising commitment to the critical study of curriculum and curriculum scholarship informed by cultural studies. Congratulations!
