Commencement FAQs

Q: When are commencement ceremonies held?

A: We hold commencement every December and May.

Q: I am a master’s student. When may I participate in commencement?

A: Master’s candidates who plan to complete their degree requirements in May or August may attend the May ceremony. December candidates will be invited to the December or the following May ceremony.

Q: I am a PhD (or EdD) student. When may I participate in commencement?

A: Doctoral students who complete all of their degree requirements during spring may attend the May ceremony. Students who complete their degree requirements in the summer or fall terms will be invited to the December or following May ceremony.

Q: When will I receive my diploma?

A: Diplomas are mailed approximately two months after the end of the term in which you graduated.

Q: When will my degree be posted to my transcript?

A: Degrees are posted approximately six weeks after the end of the term in which you graduated. If you need verification that you have completed all of your degree requirements before your transcript is posted, the Graduate School can provide a letter of completion.
