Admission Requirements
Prospective graduate students must apply to both
the Graduate School and to the Department of
Educational Leadership and Counseling
Psychology. Faculty review application
materials and consider: academic potential,
recommendations, fit with the program, past
academic performance, prerequisite background
preparation in the study of sport and business,
and availability in the program. Sport Management
program applications should include the
following: official transcripts from all
institutions attended; current resume; three
current recommendation letters addressing past
academic performance; application letter
describing student’s purpose in attending
graduate school; and GRE scores (verbal and
quantitative scores combined should be at least
900).
Program Description
The Sport Management Program is committed to
preparing students for careers as managers and
administrators in the sports industry. Students
examine the range of historical, social, legal,
political, economic, and organizational issues
that impact the management of sport in varied
settings, including collegiate, recreational, and
professional sport.
Students who plan to work in the sport industry will typically choose the Ed.M. degree (non-thesis option) . The M.A. degree (thesis option) is recommended for students who might eventually pursue a doctoral degree or who wish to learn how to conduct research projects .
Students interested in doctoral work in Sport Management may apply to WSU’s doctoral program in Higher Education Administration and select a twelve-credit area of specialization comprised of courses offered by the Sport Management Program.
